New 18oz. Slider Carnival Cup From Glass America

A new product is being added to the very popular Carnival Cup line from Glass America. The 18 oz. Slider Lid Carnival Cup is new for 2011 and brings two nice added features: it is larger, and it does not spill.

The Carnival Cup from Glass America (or similar Spirit Tumbler from The Express Line) are styled after standard fountain drink cups, but made from BPA-free double walled acrylic. This design of a reusable tumbler that looks like a cup remains one of the best-selling reusable drinkware products on the market.

But the design has a flaw.

Even though they featured a screw-top lid that is nearly 100% watertight, there is a hole in the top of that lid where the straw is placed. If you drop the tumbler, there is a good chance of the product leaking via this hole.

If you look at the new 18 oz. Slider Lid Carnival Cup you see a passover trigger has been added to the cup. When not in use the straw is tucked safety into this trigger. (Honestly, the only other place I have seen a similar setup is in my little girl’s Dora The Explorer sippy cup.) So no more spills.

Other than the new top, and larger size, the 18 oz. Slider Lid Carnival Cup is the same basic unit as the 16 oz. Carnival Cup.

The larger imprint area is 4in x 2.5in on both the back and front of the tumbler.  Colors are Aqua Blue, Clear, Hot Pink, Orange, and Purple.

The wider top and larger capacity on the 18 oz. Slider Lid Carnival Cup make them a great beverage holder for soft drinks and ice tea, because the big top works well for adding ice.

These items, like their predecessors, are a great idea for companies starting reduce and reuse programs at the office, as the design is all about replacing standard cups with like looking reusable tumblers.

Those in the beverage industry and food services should also consider the Carnival Cup design for giveaways. This is the type of item that travels with the recipient from work to home to play, always keeping your brand in front of your client.

Carnival Cup Hit at Arlington EcoFest

19 Sep

Carnival Cup by Glass America

Just back from the City of Arlington EcoFest, where Proforma Green Marketing had a booth focused on educating the public about eco-friendly marketing solutions for business and organizations. What item in our booth seemed to elicit the most interest? The clear winner was the Carnival Cup from Glass America.

The Carnival Cup has the advantage of sharing its design with similar style tumblers seen in retail stores like Wal-Mart and Starbucks, so there is already a level of familiarity existing with the audience (which is a desirable attribute for a promo item).

Like those retail tumblers the Carnival Cup is a reusable, BPA free, double wall acrylic tumbler, with screw top lid, bundled with a matching acrylic straw. With single color imprint, a 20 oz. Carnival Cup runs $3.99 at 144 units. Imprint area is a large 4in x 2.5in, and multiple color imprints are possible. Glass America sells the same unit at 16oz for $3.49, again at 144 units.

Another reason the Carnival Cup might have collected so many questions from the audience is that the City of Arlington was selling the similarly designed 16oz spirit tumbler from the express line (the company that does not believe in capital  letters), so there were really a lot of these units floating around the event.

The spirit tumbler is available in 16oz, 24oz, and the brand new 20 oz tall. All sizes are available in 10 colors – Glass America offers only black, green, red and clear, while the express line has hipper options like aqua and tangerine – and like the Carnival Cup come with a matching straw.

Either of these units are great ideas for companies starting reduce, reuse programs, as the main claim to eco fame of this design is their re-usability. The wide tops and matching straws make them an easy beverage holder for soft drinks and ice tea.

Of course anyone in the beverage industry or food services might also want to consider the Carnival Cup design for giveaways. At EcoFest we saw their popularity with the audience and this is the type of item that travels with the recipient from work to home to play, always keeping your brand in front of your client.

2010 Resolutions: Switch To Reusable Mugs In The Office

13 Jan

This is a guest post by John Simonetta, owner of Proforma Simonetta Freelance, an eco-friendly promotional items consultancy (see proformagreen.com). John’s blogs are designed to keep us up to date on the “greening” of his industry.

For readers that have decided that 2010 will finally be the year to move the office away from polystyrene and paper cups to reusable mugs at the old coffee machine, here are a couple of ideas on popular models under $2.

Norwood offers two budget mugs under an EQP of $2, the aply named 11oz. Budget Mug at $1.25 and the 11 oz. Color Accent Budget Mug at EQP $1.79. While the basic Budge Mug might be one of the best selling mugs in the industry, the  Color Accent Budget Mug is really the stand out here, as it allows for a lot of color at a low price. The imprint area on both mugs is 2-1/2″w x 1-3/4″h, with a three color maximum for artwork.

A nice trick to get the most out of the Color Accent Budget Mug is to pick a color band that matches or mixes well with your company or organizational logo. Maybe red accent with a blue logo or gray accent with black logo. With a good mix it is like getting a two color imprint for the price of a one color mug.

Glass America by far has the largest assortment of under $2 mugs, clocking in with 15 models with EQP pricing running from $1.09 for their 11 oz White Budget model to $1.99 for their to 16oz Latte Grande which can double as a small soup bowl.

Two bucks can also get you a bit of style at Glass America in the form of their popular Ribbon, Taza, and Camper Collection (shown at left).

The Hampton mug from Glass America comes in a whopping 11 color choices, which is pretty good for a budget 11oz. mug that has an EQP of $1.45.

Having a discussion about mugs in the promotional products industry is a bit like talking about pens, there are just 100s of ideas out there as these items are so common to the industry. Plus in addition to traditional ceramic mugs, there are whole families of mugs made from corn plastic, glass, and other eco-friendly materials, so it is really one of those items where a buyer needs to consider their audience and budget and their expected ROI when picking a model.

For the switch to reusable mugs in the office really any mug will work. A simple coffee mug is really a great first step in the longer process of going green in the work place.

If you want to splurge and go above $2, take a look at the websites of the manufacturers mentioned to see an even larger selection of items. If you are interested in mugs to promote your own business, contact your local promotional items vendor or email info@proformagreen.com for information and pricing.

Glass America Adding Ice Up and Cold Snap BPA Free Line

12 Apr

Glass America – one of the industry leader in drinkware – is continuing to add to their line of BPA free water bottles. Two new items added in 2009 are the 22 oz. Ice Up Freezer Stick Bottle and the 32 oz. Cold Snap BPA Free Bottle.

Both bottles have a flip top drink straw and include a “freeze stick” design, basically an inner core in which water can be frozen to keep the liquid in the bottle cool throughout long summer days. EQP on the Ice-Up is $4.99, EQP on the Cold Snap is $5.99. Both come in a variety of colors, both have an easy open wide mouth and a clip designed for easy handling.

The Ice-Up and Cold Snap BPA free bottles will work well for Ecopreneurists looking to market to the gym crowd, outside festivals, parks, adventure travel, etc. The added freeze stick makes this promotional item that much more likely to be retained by your target audience.

As I have mentioned before BPA free water bottles are really the only way to go if you are thinking about plastic water bottles, and as far as I can tell nearly all units in the Glass America line are BPA free. However these bottles are not made from recycled materials. Their only real claim to green is that they are reusable and therefor better than disposable water bottles.

If that enough? With promotional mugs and tumblers from Norwood, Leads and others that are made from 100% recycled materials and are themselves recyclable, how long will the industry need to wait for made from recycled material water bottles?

For recyclable bottles in the Glass America line you have to look at their aluminum and steel line.  A quick search of their website shows a number of new styles in aluminum and steel bottles as well, including the new aluminum “Bigg” 32 oz bottle available with full color print via sublimation.

But the Bigg is EQP $6.49 and still the same basic shape as most aluminum bottles. Where are the industry’s sleek and stylish, yet inexpensive, recyclable and recycled plastic water bottles? I’m waiting…
