The  9″ Flyer – Recycled Flyer is also CPSIA compliant for toy product safety and labeling, and FDA Compliant – Safe for food contact, which makes these a great event item for restaurant, as they can double as meal trays. The  9″ Flyer – Recycled Flyer is Union made in New York.

Additionally, the 9″ Flyers are available with printed insert cards that can be used as coupons, tickets, special announcements, or as a direct mailing insert.  Just think of the inserts as even more room for your call to action or marketing message.

The nice thing about flyers is once you hand them out, they make their way to the parks, playgrounds, and neighborhoods of the recipients, continuing to spread your brand.

Flyers are too much fun to just throw out, so they normally have a long life as a “spokesperson” your product or service.

Men’s Sueded Jersey Long Sleeve

9 Feb
60% certified organic cotton, 40% recycled polyester.

60% certified organic cotton, 40% recycled polyester.

There is a new long sleeve tee from Econscious on the market. And it is really, really nice.

The EC1588 econscious Men’s Sueded Jersey Long Sleeve is available in 3 color options and sizes, S- XXL. The material for the EC1588 econscious Men’s Sueded Jersey Long Sleeve is a 4.25oz 60% organic cotton ring-spun jersey material, with a 40% blend of recycled polyester.

These are the same quality shirts that Econsciuos is selling in their retail line, and part of the 1% For The Planet initiative at Econsciuos, see https://www.econscious.net/pages/sustainability. The shirts have a great drape, and a retail look to them.

However, as covered in the FAQ page at the Econsciuos website, these shirts are not manufactured in the USA, and in their defense, it is really hard to locate affordable, recycled content tees, that are made in the USA.

Other than their materials, the EC1588 econscious Men’s Sueded Jersey Long Sleeve is your basic long-sleeve tee (ok, they are a lot nicer than an average tee shirt), and by that I mean we can imprint the tees locally, with any art or logo necessary for your brand or business.

I think the extra cost of a sustainable tee is only really worthwhile, if the fact that the tee is made from sustainability sourced materials directly ties to the brand message your business or organization is seeking to promote. If you are teaching or preaching sustainability via your brand, it is good to look the part.

100% Recycled 7-in-1 Jacket

13 Aug

Flame Red w/Light Grey

The 88142 MEN’S RECYCLED POLYESTER 7-IN-1 WIND JACKET WITH REVERSIBLE LINER from the Ash City e.c.o collection  is a 100% recycled content jacket that is 100% serious for cold weather (it has been over 100 degrees here in Dallas for the past week and I am dreaming of snow).

Look at the stats:

  • Outer Shell: 100% recycled polyester with water resistant finish. 2.9 oz./yd2/100 gsm. Full polyester taffeta lining.
  • Liner-woven side: 100% recycled polyester with water resistant finish.
  • Liner-reverse fleece side: 100% recycled polyester anti-pill brushed fleece. 4.3 oz./yd2/145 gsm.

Plus this is a jacket from Ash City, so regardless of materials used, you can expect all the extra perks, like flat reflective safety piping and reverse coil zippers on the jacket’s front and lower pockets.

The 88142 comes in four dramatic color choices, Captain’s Blue w/Light Grey, Flame Red w/Light Grey, Black w/Light Grey and Classic Navy w/Light Grey. The jacket also makes use of the Ash City Ezaway System® making for an easy conversion from jacket to vest (sleeves zipper off of the jacket, and 100% recycled material fleece lining is removable as fleece jacket).

The Ash City 88142 is a great option for staff jackets for any organization that has a commitment to sustainability, especially hotels and resorts that wanting to make a physical, visual, statements in their staff apparel that reflects their larger sustainable commitment.

Ash City does both screen printing and embroidery in-house, which means they know all the tricks to get the best look out of your artwork on their clothing. And since Ash City specializes in corporate apparel programs, adding the 88142 and other items of the e.c.o. collection into your existing apparel program is a snap. (Perhaps a recycled content performance polo makes more sense for the current heat).

For more information on the complete Ash City e.c.o. collection contact Chris Clark at Ash City USA. If you are looking to purchase Ash City e.c.o items for your own business contact your local promotional items distributor or email info@proformagreen.com for samples and pricing.

My New Answer: Mike Biddle

14 Oct

People ask us all the time. Where do the recycled materials come from that end up in the sustainable products our industry sells, and I write about on this bog. I used to have a long answer for that question. I now have a short answer. Mike Biddle. Here is Mr. Biddle talking at TEDGlobal 2011. These is an amazing story and a great way to rethink recycling.

.

From TEDThrowing water bottles into the recycling bin doesn’t begin to address the massive quantity of postconsumer plastic that ends up in landfills and the ocean. Because it’s so difficult to separate the various kinds of plastics – up to 20 kinds per product – that make up our computers, cell phones, cars and home appliances, only a small fraction of plastics from complex waste streams are recycled, while the rest is tossed. In 1992, Mike Biddle, a plastics engineer, set out to find a solution. He set up a lab in his garage in Pittsburg, California, and began experimenting with complex-plastics recycling, borrowing ideas from such industries as mining and grain processing.

Since then, Biddle has developed a patented 30-step plastics recycling system that includes magnetically extracting metals, shredding the plastics, sorting them by polymer type and producing graded pellets to be reused in industry – a process that takes less than a tenth of the energy required to make virgin plastic from crude oil. Today, the company he co-founded, MBA Polymers, has plants in China and Austria, and plans to build more in Europe, where electronics-waste regulation (which doesn’t yet have an equivalent in the US) already ensures a stream of materials to exploit – a process Biddle calls “above-ground mining.”

He says: “I consider myself an environmentalist. I hate to see plastics wasted. I hate to see any natural resource – even human time – wasted.”
