Sustainable Ideas for Plastic Hotel Key Cards

1 Nov

EnviroCards are made with an innovative plastic that contains a blend of both pre-consumer and post consumer recycled materials.

If you have been to a hotel in the last 10 years you likely noticed that the metal door key is out and the plastic room key is in. And if you have been to a convention in the last few years you likely have noticed that those plastic hotel keys have morphed into little billboards advertising everything from the convention you’re attending to serving as a $10 off coupon to the local Applebee’s.

Custom printing of hotel keys is a great idea. This is a perfect advertising medium to educate someone who likely is new in town as to where to eat, where to drink, and where to shop. Other ideas might be the placement of a QR link to the local newspaper, museum, or zoo. Really the possibilities are endless. And so it seems are the number of plastic key cards being printed.

So what is a more sustainable solution for plastic key cards? How about EnviroCards from Teraco.  EnviroCards are made with an innovative plastic that contains a blend of both pre-consumer and post consumer recycled materials. Again it seem we have located another use for all those old water bottles.

In terms of recycling we expect the hotel to recycle their cards, but what about the key card left in your pocket that comes back home with you? Well Teraco has that covered as well, as each EnviroCard is part of the EnviroCards program and any wayward card can be sent back to the manufacturer for recycling.

The addition of this closed loop is a nice touch and also goes further from a marketing perspective in the demonstration of the key provider’s commitment to sustainability, i.e. it is good for both the hotel’s brand and the planet. And whether they get sent back or not, the impact of using the card is still real in that the card started from materials that would have otherwise gone to the landfill.

If you are an ASI distributor, you can get more information about the EnviroCard from Jeff Kush at Teraco. If you are interested in promotional keycards to promote your own business or event, contact your local promotional items vendor or email info@proformagreen.com for information and pricing.
