This is a guest post by John Simonetta, owner of ProformaGreen, an eco-friendly promotional items consultancy. John’s blogs are designed to keep us up to date on the “greening” of his industry.
Independent Printing has started a blog at www.designed2print.wordpress.com, which has a number of good articles on the changes in the printing industry. The site covers how Independent Printing is staying ahead of the curve by offering not only Forest Stewardship Council paper and vegetable based inks, but also switching to green energy for their plants.
Our number one seller from Independent Printing is their Enviro-binder.
This eco-conscious alternative to a vinyl binder is made of 100% post-consumer recycled chipboard and printed with low VOC-emitting, renewable vegetable-based inks.
The heavy 26pt. chipboard is durable and lasts longer than many other green products on the market, thus reducing costs for replacement.
The Enviro-binder can also be imprinted with spot PMS inks and blind embossing. Many clients will combine the Enviro-binder with printing inserts on recycled or FSC certified papers to maintain the green theme. The eco-binder even is available with removable screw-in ring sets to make recyclability simpler at the end of the binder’s long life.
And yes the binder comes in colors other than brown if you need a more professional look.

Love the concept of an eco binder, and suggest that the paper in it be derived from the Hemp, now legally grown in Quebec and Ontario. Hemp is and annually renewable fiber that yields up to four times the fiber per acre in one year as the same acreage of trees does in 20 years. Using hemp can save the forests and our largest consumer of CO2 and producer of vital oxygen. The pioneer farmers of this crop are working against high opposition, from other industries as well as popular misconceptions. they are uber-ecologists and need our support. In my purchases, preference is given to hemp products as part of an ongoing ecological effort.
Nice blog
Naked Binder is another 100% recycled (97% post consumer) binder. It is super strong and has 4 different looks. While they don’t print them, it a nice looking binder. http://www.nakedbinder.com
